What is a Nit?
A nit (cd/m²) is a unit of luminance. The brighter the environment, the more nits your display needs to remain readable.
How many nits for outdoor signage?
Minimum 5,000 nits for direct sunlight. Shaded outdoor locations can use 2,500–4,000 nits.
What brightness for indoor retail?
Standard retail: 400–800 nits. Brightly lit or window-facing: 1,500–2,500 nits.
